A New Pregnancy Yoga Class for Godalming

I’m starting a new pregnancy yoga class in Godalming, and I’m really looking forward to welcoming you into it. It’s held at Surrey Holistic in Wiggins Yard, Godalming, Sundays at 11:00 a.m. I’ve picked that time on purpose—because weekday morning and afternoon classes just don’t work for everyone. If you’re working during the week, juggling other kids, or simply can’t face rushing out the door mid-morning on a Tuesday, this is designed to be a much easier slot to actually make happen.

This is going to be a small class—an absolute maximum of six people. That means you won’t be lost in a busy room, and I’ll be able to give proper attention to everyone. You’ll also have plenty of equipment to support you: mats, blocks, bolsters, cushions, and blankets. If your knees are feeling fussy, we’ll pad things out. If you need more support to get comfortable, we’ll use it. The idea is that you can move in a way that feels safe and manageable, without trying to force yourself into anything.

The class will be gentle, but not in a boring or overly cautious way. Some days you’ll want something really soft and supportive. Other days you might want a bit more stretch and space in your body. Pregnancy changes day by day, and the class will reflect that. You can rest when you need to, move when it feels good, and I’ll offer alternatives when something doesn’t feel right.

I’ve recently completed an 85-hour pregnancy yoga teacher training course, and it’s made a big difference in how I approach pregnancy movement. In a standard 200-hour yoga teacher training, pregnancy is covered, but usually in a “here’s what to avoid” way. And yes, that matters—there are things we won’t be doing, like lying on your tummy, big deep twists, or hardcore ab work. But what I found really valuable about the pregnancy training is that it focused much more on what is positively beneficial, and what can actually make you feel better.

Pregnancy comes with a lot of “don’t do that” advice. But many people spend far less time talking about what helps when you’ve got cramp, when you feel like you can’t properly breathe, when your pelvis feels uncomfortable, or when you’re dealing with lightheadedness, nausea, heartburn, and that general feeling that your body is working overtime. In this class we’ll use practical, supportive poses and simple techniques that are there to meet real symptoms, not a fantasy version of pregnancy.

There’s also the bigger picture: giving birth is hard work. I’ve given birth once, and I’ve also done a half marathon once—and honestly, they’re not wildly different (and I had no great urge to repeat either experience!) Birth, and then recovery afterwards, asks a lot of your body. Even though we’ve been doing this as humans forever, that doesn’t make it easy. So yes, we’ll do things like stretch calves to help with cramp and find positions that give your pelvis a break. But we’ll also build physical stamina, explore helpful positions, and practice breathwork that can support you during labour and in the weeks after.

And it’s not only relevant if you’re planning a vaginal birth. If you end up giving birth via cesarean, those same core and pelvic muscles still matter—because they’re the muscles that are being affected, and you’ll want to reconnect with them for recovery. The goal isn’t to “train” you into some perfect outcome. It’s to help you feel more prepared, more resourced, and more at home in your body, whatever happens.

There’s a mental side to this too. We’ll include relaxation and simple ways to settle your nervous system. And we’ll also make a bit of space for that truth that pregnancy and birth don’t always follow the plan. I remember being encouraged to write a really detailed birth plan, and then arriving at the hospital and watching most of it go out the window. That can feel upsetting if you’re attached to one specific version of how it “should” go. Or you can land in a more flexible place of: we did what we needed to do, everyone is safe, and we got through it. Yoga can help you practise that kind of steady mindset.

This class is also time for you. Whether it’s your first baby or you’ve already got children at home, pregnancy can be full-on—physically and mentally. It’s easy to get swallowed up by the to-do list, appointments, and everyone else’s needs. Having an hour where you can check in with yourself, move in a supportive way, and breathe properly is not a luxury. It’s genuinely useful.

It’s also a space where you don’t have to pretend everything is glowing and magical. You can be honest. You can say, “I’m fed up because my back hurts,” or “I’m not sleeping,” or “I feel like my pelvic floor is about to give up,” without needing to perform happiness about the miracle of life. Especially in hot weather, or when your joints ache, or you feel dizzy if you stand up too quickly—none of that is fun, and it’s normal to admit that.

The vibe is inclusive, practical, and down to earth. We’ll include relaxation and breathwork, but we’re not going to do the full Earth Mother Goddess thing. This is about what works. Whatever shape or size you are, whatever shape or size your family is or is going to be, whether you are going to identify yourself as "mum" or something else, you are welcome. And if you have a disability, limitation, or injury, I also have a qualification in accessible yoga, so adapting is something I’m very used to. We’ll find ways for you to participate safely and comfortably.

Because the class is small, it’s £15 per session. You CAN pay as you go (whatever the automatic booking link below says) and your first class is free by using coupon code FIRSTCLASS . If you have any problems during the booking let me know. There are also multi-class bundles available, and they’re flexible: they don’t expire, they can be used across any of my classes, and you’re not committing to coming every single week. That matters, because pregnancy doesn’t always run to schedule. If you buy a bundle and baby arrives early, you can use the remaining classes later—when you’re ready—to come back to another class after the birth.

If you’re in or near Godalming and a Sunday pregnancy class sounds like it could fit into your life, I’d love to meet you. Small group, supportive set-up, practical tools, and space to be exactly where you are that day—that’s the whole point.
